Woman sitting by a window in a calm, reflective moment — counselling support for PTSD and Developmental Trauma

Trauma Counselling

on the Tweed Coast

For PTSD, Complex PTSD, and Developmental Trauma

What if being truly heard, changed how it feels?

Some experiences — such as developmental trauma (when key needs for safety, care, and connection in childhood weren't consistently met) —leave a deeper imprint than others.

The impact of such experiences isn't defined by the event alone, but how it lives on in our system — often held by the protective parts doing their best to shield us from pain.

These protective parts rely on strategies that help us survive, but over time they can leave us feeling disconnected, reactive, or stuck in patterns that hurt us and the people we love. In our work together, we'll turn toward these parts and their patterns with curiousity and care, however uncomfortable, and give them the space they deserve.

MY APPROACH

We begin with safety. And safety takes time. We go slowly — building trust not just between us, but within you. Trauma can disconnect us from what it means to feel safe, leaving our 'protective parts' on high alert. These parts have often learned to shield you from pain in ways that once made sense — through avoidance, control, withdrawal, or even inner criticism. We take our time — building resilience in the here and now — so that your protective parts feel safe enough to soften, to step back just a little. This allows space for your Self to lead: the calm, curious, wise core within you that knows how to heal. It's not lost. Just often hidden beneath the burdens these parts have carried for so long.  That's why we take our time. Together, we create a steady connection where even your most protective parts don't feel exposed. They're not asked to let go, but gently invited to be seen, understood, and cared for in a new way.  When these parts feel truly seen and welcomed, they begin to soften on their own. There's where change begins — not through pressure, but through relationship. And once these parts step back— we can gently approach the stories you carry. This means gently exploring the parts of you still carrying the impact of trauma: the beliefs, the body memories, the emotions.  It's best to do this gradually, moving slowly, with care, so that healing can happen. It's not about reliving the pain - it's about transforming how it lives inside you.  If this approach resonates with you, I invite you to get in touch and book an initial appointment. We'll go gently— healing happens in connection — we'll work together to rebuild trust, safety, and a sense of being met, not managed.

I can help you

  • Understand and work with the protective parts that shape your responses

  • Reduce the intensity of triggers and body-based reactions

  • Gently process beliefs, body memories, and emotions linked to past experiences

  • Develop skills for self-regulation and grounding in the present

  • Reconnect with a sense of agency, choice, and self-trust

How does your Explore Your Fit/New Client policy get applied?

I offer a unique policy for prospective individual and couples' counselling clients: if you decide not to continue after your first session, there is no charge for that session. However, if you choose to rebook, the first session will be billed as part of your ongoing therapy. Committing to continue is not binding. You are not required to commit to a set number of sessions. You have the freedom to decide how best to move forward at any given point. This policy is designed to give you the opportunity to explore whether my approach feels right for you without financial pressure. Exclusions: 1. This offer applies to individual and couples counselling only. Family sessions are not included in this offer due to the additional preparation and planning. 2. Because I work with a small number of client bookings each week - no more than six - availability for new individual and couples' clients under this introductory policy is restricted during times when my caseload is at capacity.
